Preeti Pal made history at the Paris 2024 Paralympics by winning two bronze medals in the Women’s T35 category. She secured medals in both the 100m and 200m events, becoming the first Indian woman track and field athlete to achieve this feat at a single Paralympic Games. Her success is a testament to her hard work and determination.

A Childhood Full of Challenges

Born on September 22, 2000, in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, Preeti Pal faced significant challenges early in life. Just days after her birth, her legs were plastered due to weakness and irregular posture. For years, she underwent treatments to strengthen her legs and wore callipers until the age of 13. Despite the difficulties, Preeti showed resilience and overcame the odds.

Finding Inspiration in the Paralympics

At the age of 17, Preeti’s life took a new direction when she discovered the Paralympic Games on social media. Inspired by the athletes, she realized that she too could pursue a career in sports. Though financial struggles made training difficult, a meeting with Paralympic athlete Fatima Khatoon changed her life. With Fatima’s support, Preeti entered the world of para-athletics and competed in the 2018 State Para Athletics Championships.

Success on the International Stage

Preeti’s dedication led her to compete in national events and qualify for the Asian Para Games in 2022, where she narrowly missed a medal, finishing 4th in both the 100m and 200m sprints. However, her drive remained strong. In 2024, she competed in the World Para Athletics Championship, winning bronze in both the 100m and 200m events, setting the stage for her Paralympic success.
