Mona Agarwal Wins Bronze at Paris 2024 Paralympics

Mona Agarwal has become a star in para shooting, winning a bronze medal in the R2 Women’s 10m Air Rifle SH1 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Her journey from facing early life challenges to achieving global success is a true example of determination and hard work.

Facing Early Challenges

Mona was born on November 8, 1987, in Sikar, Rajasthan. At just nine months old, she contracted polio, which affected both her lower limbs. Despite this setback, she focused on her education. She completed her degree in arts and is now studying for a master’s in psychology through distance learning.

Building Independence and Strength

At 23, Mona made a brave choice to live independently. She worked in HR and marketing, overcoming many physical challenges. In 2016, she shifted her focus to para-athletics. Competing in throw events, she won gold in all three categories at the state level. She also earned medals in para powerlifting.

Leading in Sitting Volleyball

Mona also made a mark in sitting volleyball. As captain, she led the Rajasthan State team to victory in the first National Sitting Volleyball Championship for women in 2019. While selected for an international tournament, she couldn’t participate due to pregnancy but continued to inspire others.

Success in Rifle Shooting

In December 2021, Mona turned to rifle shooting. Her talent was clear from the start. In 2022, she won a national silver medal. By 2023, she had earned a bronze at her first international World Cup and finished 6th at the 4th Asian Para Games. Her hard work paid off when she won gold in her fourth international event, securing a Paralympic quota and setting a new Asian record.

Support and Training

The Indian government has been crucial in helping Mona succeed. Through programs like Khelo India and the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE), she received financial support and access to top training facilities at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi. This support has been key to her success.

A Story of Inspiration

Mona Agarwal’s journey is a powerful story of resilience. Her achievements at the Paris 2024 Paralympics inspire many, proving that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. Mona is now a role model for athletes everywhere.
